Sottsass Lamp
An exploration of the aesthetics of Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Group.
Sottsass’s bold and flamboyant design, introduced in the 1980s, has left an indelible mark on the world of furniture, ceramics, and lighting, while also becoming an influential reference in the field of graphic design. Characterized by the use of fundamental geometric shapes, this postmodern style seamlessly blends with today’s 3D animation trends, creating a vibrant connection between past and present in contemporary design.
From a simple geometric shape, a chain of events, transformations, and morphings unfolds, giving life to a more complex object. The camera curiously follows the development of our colorful, simple shapes, made of plastic, glass, wood, and aluminum, which, through playful balance, culminate in the formation of what is revealed to be a lamp.
This playful and fun project involves some interesting R+D on Soft Body, accurate Rigging, and a lot of manual tweaking on secondary animations.
